Thomas J. Kindt is regularly required as a consultant on immu-
nology and infectious diseases by governmental and private organizations
and has served for many years as director of intramural research in
the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of
Health, a position that keeps him in daily contact with the forefront of immunity
